Stornoway, or as the islanders call it, Steornabhagh (Gaelic), on the Island of Lewis in the Hebrides Isles of Scotland, is the primary town of the district and the centre of administration. To the first time explorer of the Hebrides Isles the town can seem a tad plain but the town has some truly gorgeous areas including, probably the most visited, the grounds of Lews Castle. In recent years the Local Council have invested heavily in improving the aesthetics of Stornoway using a variety of ideas for example by creating small gardens and fountains and even large artworks such as the herring girl right in the cente of town. Besides the fact that Stornoway has a small selection of positive aspects in reference to places to visit that are indeed fairly pretty , there also exists a great many very special visitor attractions to visit that are not too far from the town itself, such as the incredibly popular, and incredibly photogenic, standing stones at Callanish.
The Island of Lewis has much to offer the visitor not least the breathtaking golden shores, found on the south west coast, or the ancient iron age Dùn Chàrlabhaigh Broch, to be found not too far from the previously mentioned standing stones at Callanish. With such a large selection of superb places to hand Stornoway is, more than likely, the best to use as a base for your holiday on the Isle of Lewis. So the only thing facing you is settling upon which Lewis hotels to stay in.
The Caberfeidh Hotel is Steornabhagh’s highest quality hotel. Sat on the outskirts of Stornoway, on the opposite side of the road to the extremely popular grounds of Lews Castle ( which are well worth a walk through), this is the hotel you should choose if you would prefer to be away from the crowds during your Lewis vacation.
The Royal Hotel is Steornabhagh’s oldest hotel and can be found in the heart of the town, (well, a very short walking distance from it), but overlooking the water with the grounds of Lews Castle in the distance. This is the Steornabhagh hotel you should choose if you would prefer not to have to go so far to get to the town centre during your Lewis vacation.
The Caladh Inn is the town’s biggest hotel offering the most number of rooms. Sat on the outskirts of Stornoway, but on the airport road, this hotel is a further hotel that is within a short distance of Stornoway town centre and all of the facilities available there.
Whether you make reservations with the Caladh Inn or one of the other Stornoway hotels you can be certain that your Outer Hebrides vacation will be one to remember.
